Delhi Imposes ₹7 Crore in Fines, Moves to Shut 48 Construction Sites Over Pollution Violations

The Delhi government has launched a sweeping crackdown on construction-related pollution, issuing permanent closure notices to dozens of sites and levying substantial financial penalties on offenders. The action, announced by Minister Manjinder Sirsa, follows intensified inspections aimed at enforcing the Capital’s pollution-control regulations amid deteriorating air quality.

According to Sirsa, authorities have so far issued notices initiating permanent shutdown proceedings against 48 construction sites found flouting mandated dust- and emission-control measures. In addition, cumulative fines amounting to ₹7 crore have been imposed on violators across the city. Officials said the enforcement drive is part of an ongoing effort to ensure strict adherence to environmental norms, particularly at large-scale private and public construction projects known to contribute significantly to particulate pollution.

The minister underscored that the government intends to maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward breaches of pollution-control rules. He noted that inspections will continue in the coming days and warned that any entity disregarding established guidelines should expect prompt administrative action, including heavy penalties and operational closure.
